1. Administration & Operations Office
Manages the Institute’s general administration, including day-to-day operations, HR and staff relations, logistics, facilities, assets, and procurement. Coordinates internal resources and ensures efficient functioning.
2. Legal & Compliance Office
Handles all legal and compliance matters, including operation of the Research Ethics Committee (IRB), data privacy and security (e.g. GDPR and local data protection laws), drafting and review of agreements, and management of intellectual property (copyrights, patents). Ensures research complies with applicable laws and standards.
3. Research Division I (Urban Environment & Health)
Core thematic research unit focused on the intersection of urban environment and population health. Uses epidemiology, environmental health, urban and transport planning, and related methods to study how the built environment, air quality, noise, green space, and transport affect physical and mental health, and to provide evidence for healthy city planning.
4. Research Division II (Data Science & Policy Evaluation)
Core methods and applied unit focused on data analytics and policy evaluation. Develops and applies statistical models, machine learning, and causal inference to multi-source health data. Tasks include evaluating the effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of health-related policies, projecting health outcomes under different interventions, and turning findings into clear, actionable policy advice and decision-support tools.
5. Data Platform & Technology Department
Responsible for the Institute’s data and IT infrastructure. Designs, builds, and maintains the unified health-city research data platform; ensures secure, reliable data collection, cleaning, standardisation, storage, and backup; develops visualisation and analysis tools; and maintains internal networks, servers, and software in a secure and compliant manner.
6. Research Operations Office
Provides project support across the research lifecycle: grant applications, project setup and tracking, organisation of outputs and IP registration, support for peer review and impact assessment, and coordination with domestic and international partners. Also manages interns and visiting scholars.
7. Communications & Engagement Office
Responsible for internal and external communication, branding, and knowledge dissemination. Develops and implements communication strategy; runs the official website, social media, and academic output channels; organises conferences, workshops, and public events; turns key findings into policy briefs, outreach, and media content; and maintains relationships with government, academia, media, and the public.
8. Finance & Grants Department
Oversees financial planning, management, and audit. Prepares and executes budgets and financial reports; manages research grants, donations, and operating funds; ensures audit and tax compliance; and develops and manages funding from government, foundations, and other partners.
